Learning Outcome 4
The main thing I look for when peer reviewing are four things. I make sure that they have a clear thesis, they introduce the authors, they make sure to include their own experiences and opinions, and lastly that they do not get off topic with their sentences. These are all things I want to make sure that I have in my own paper, so I make sure that people have them in their papers. Doing this has really helped me with checking my own paper. I now make sure that I have a clear thesis. Afterwards I make sure that I am explaining who the authors are, what they wrote, and their opinions on my own thesis. I then make sure that I am using my own personal experiences and am explaining my opinions on all of the authors’ statements. While doing that I am checking that all of my own experiences go with what I am trying to say, along with making sure that I am not rambling and am instead circling back around to the main point to begin with. I think that peer reviewing has helped me see my problems in my own papers. Back in high school we had others that we choose to peer review our papers, but I always chose someone that was not in my class, so I never got to peer review their papers. I feel like it would have helped me if I had the opportunity to peer review others.
